”please allow me to adjust my pants/ so that i may dance the good time dance/ and put the onlookers and innocent bystanders into a trance”   -clutch

I’m a twenty something black woman seeking authenticity, direction and a creative outlet.  Attempting to once and for all ditch my fear of articulating my own authentic voice,  I created this blog.

I love doing simple things that bring goodness to my soul: reading a good novel; sitting and talking with my mama in her kitchen; listening to the sound of an acoustic guitar and/or the raspy, gutsy voice of a black woman singing the blues (shout out to the incomparable Koko Taylor); dancing and  laughing (the gasping- for- breath kind) with my friends; and…writing.

Admittedly, my love for writing is a new one and  I certainly don’t consider myself ”a writer.” But for me, writing is a therapeutic exercise, not to mention that if I’m on a roll in my writing I can lose all track of time and responsibility. (Did I really just admit that? Okay, after writing that sentence, I think I can offically consider myself a full-fledged nerd…>sigh!<).  But moreover, I’ve come to find that I can be in writing what I struggle so hard to be in person: confident. aggressive. clever. honest. vulnerable.

What I write on this blog are my own thoughts and reflections on a myriad of topics and issues–some personal, some political…even though I’m convinced that the personal and the political intersect so much that they can be considered one in the same.   Though I’m blogging these days more for the sake of my own sanity than for a particular audience or “readership,” feel free to leave a thoughtful comment or two.  I look forward to receiving feedback (and the occasional challenge!).
